Our STEM-focused summer camps combine fun and learning in one unforgettable experience that teaches students how to think and work like real engineers, scientists, creative designers, and developers. Students get work on cool projects, engage in fun, hands-on activities, and develop real-world products and digital creations.

Science Camp
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description: In this hands-on science camp students will conduct different science labs and workshops. The workshops and labs are guided through a series of interactive science projects and experiments that challenge their creativity and imagination. Students will work individually and in teams to conduct their lab projects. With the knowledge of “how to”, students learn to be creative, critical, and organized thinkers, and problem solvers.

Robotics with LEGO EV3
Grades: 4 -6 (rising)
Camp Description: In this fun, hands-on course, students build robots using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3. Students work individually and in small teams to learn about key concepts such as gear ratios, locomotion and energy. Students learn how to control robots by putting them through a series of real-world challenges.

Intro to Robotics & Engineering
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description: In this camp, students will learn to build and program robots using LEGO WeDo kits. Students will use sensors, and motors to create different robots and use an easy-to-use visual programming tool to program their robots. In the second half of the day, students will work on fun engineering and building projects.  This camp is a great introduction to robotics and engineering.

Minecraft Game Design & Modding
Grades: 3 – 6 (rising)
Camp Description:  In this 3D game design course, students learn how to customize Minecraft to create their own ‘mods’, and world adventure maps. Students explore the creative side of game making by creating their own games and worlds inside of Minecraft.

Intro to Coding 
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description: Students will learn the basic concepts of programming. Students will start with the easy-to-use tools such as Tynker and Scratch. Tynker and Scratch are educational programming tools designed for those just starting to learn programming.

Movie Making & Video Production
Grades: 3 – 6 (rising)
Camp Description: This course guides students into the foray of contemporary digital filmmaking. Students will experience the gamut of the production process, learning the arts of screenwriting, cinematography, directing, acting, editing and everything in between.

Intro to 3D Game Design with Minecraft and Kodu
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description:  Students will learn to create their own 3D games using Microsoft Kodu and Minecraft. Kodu is an easy-to-use 3D game design tool, in which students will learn to program basic functions and gameplay mechanics, create & edit terrain, and a lot more.  Students will also learn how to create worlds in Minecraft levels and as well as how to create their own mods.

Intro to Programing with Scratch and Python
Grades: 4 – 6 (rising)
Camp Description: Students will learn the basic concepts of programming. Students will start with the easy-to-use tools such as Scratch.  Scratch is an educational programming tool designed for those just starting to learn programming.  Students will then move on to learn basic scripting using Python.   Students will learn to code in Python to create simple applications and games.

Digital Arts – 2D Animation & Stop Motion Animation
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description: This camp introduces students to stop-motion animation and cartoon animation. Students will learn stop-motion animation techniques using clay, LEGO, and themselves (humanimation). With the HUE Animation cameras and software, students will create their own short-story and abstract videos. The principles of 2D animation will also be explored using ToonBoom Studio.  Students will learn how to animate their own cartoon.

Intro to 3D Modeling & 3D Printing
Grades: 4 – 6 (rising)
Camp Description:  This exciting camp will introduce students to the high-tech world of 3D printing. Students will learn the the fundamentals of 3D modeling and how to design, sculpt, arrange and render their own 3D creations. Best of all, students will print out their own 3D creations. This course is a fun way to learn essential technology skill and engineering skills.

Digital Arts

Intro to Digital Arts
Grades: 1 – 3 (rising)
Camp Description: Students will learn how to create digital art using easy-to-use digital tools. Students will learn the fundamentals of image manipulation using Photoshop.  Students will also create a digital portfolio with all their digital art creations.

Maker & Engineering Camp
Grades: 4 – 6 (rising)
Camp Description: In this hands-on, exciting camp, students will become makers and engineers as they learn the basics of 3D printing, computers, circuits, and robotics. Students will learn how to create simple 3D models using TinkerCAD, and print it out on a 3D printer. Students will create fun inventions from every day objects using Makey Makey and Raspberry Pi, and learn the basics of computers and circuits in the process. Students will also learn how to build interactive robots using Cubelets.

Beyond STEM skill development, students will socialize, make friends, and have fun!
Morning
8:45 am: Student check-in. Ice breakers.
9:00 am: Course instruction and project work. Let the STEM fun begin!
10:30am: Break and snack time (Indoor activities include music, board games, and team-building activities)
11:00am: Course instruction and project work.
 12pm: Lunch time & break time (indoor and outdoor activities)
Afternoon
1pm: Back to the labs. Course instruction and project work
2:30pm: Break and snack time (Outdoor activities include yoga, frisbee, soccer, outdoor games)
4:00pm: Pickup time
5:00pm: Pickup time for extended care

The prices listed below are for Arcola ES students only. A portion of the registration will be donated to Arcola ES PTA.

Camp Schedule : Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM – $295/week
Lab Fees: $25/week 
Extended Care (optional): 4pm to 5pm – $35/week
Meals: Two healthy snacks included. Lunch not included.
8:1 Student to teacher ratio
Balanced Activities: All camps include fun break activities – indoors and outdoors, games, challenges and social time. 

Summer Camp Registration

Our summer camps combine fun & learning

  • Each camp includes instruction on the concepts and technologies, and fun, hands-on projects & activities
  • All camps include a variety of fun break activities, indoors and outdoors, including games, challenges, and social time
  • Students have access to real-world tools and the latest technologies
  • Through individual and group activities, they’ll take part in hands-on projects that give them the opportunity to see their learning in action
  • Students will grouped by age and/or skill level in each camp to allow students to learn and apply their new skills at a pace that’s suitable for them
  • They’ll be taught by tech-savvy, experienced designers, developers and engineers with expertise in their fields and a passion for teaching
  • As the camp comes to an end, they’ll present their new creations and show off their skills to family and friends
